Olga Ponce Furginson -- a master paper cutter -- demonstrates the technique of Mexican paper cutting.

    Materials:

    Tissue paper of any size
    Scissors
    Craft knife

    1. Begin by folding tissue paper in half.

    2. Then fold paper in half three more times, folding over in the same direction each time (figure A). For paper smaller than 8-1/2" x 11", fold only twice.

    3. Cut corners off top (figure B) to create a pointed edge.

    4. Cut shapes along the side edge (figure C).

    5. Open the first edge and continue cutting (figure D).

    6. Repeat the opening and cutting process until all edges have been cut.

    Tips:

    • Experiment with folding and cut shapes to create different effects.

    • Do a trial run on inexpensive paper before beginning the project.
