This simple yet decorative paper project can be fashioned into a festive gift basket with the addition of a handle. Materials: 2 pieces sturdy paper in contrasting colors (construction or scrapbooking paper work well) - Cut (2) 12" x 4" strips -- one from each sheet of paper. Fold in half widthwise.
- Cut a semicircle at top of each folded piece and open.
- Mark 3 lines, each 4" long and 1" apart, from the fold toward the cut edge. Cut both pieces where marked (figure A).
- With folds and cuts pointing downward, and curve turned upward, begin weaving the two pieces together, starting with top strip of the right side. Weave first strip all the way through opening of opposite strip, going between and around the strips on the left. When woven, push strip up and weave second strip, this time reversing the direction.
- Continue until all four strips are woven.
Tip: The size of the heart can be easily expanded -- there's no limit to the number of strips that can be used.
