DIY Crafts host Mary Lyon explains how to make paste paper. Materials: 1 cup cornstarch Room-temperature water Small saucepan Blender Acrylic paint Colored paper Plastic forks Plastic spoons Pot scrubber Small scrub brush Paper cups Making Paste - Place 1 cup room-temperature water and 1 cup cornstarch in a small saucepan. Let the cornstarch dissolve in the water.
- Heat slowly. Gradually add 3 more cups of water, and continue heating.
- Boil for 2 to 3 minutes while stirring constantly. Let the mixture cool completely. It will form a thick gel.
- Place 1 cup of paste in a blender with 1 cup of water and blend until smooth.
Making Paste Paper - Divide the paste into the desired number of paper cups and add a different color of acrylic paint to each cup. Stir to blend.
- Apply one color to a piece of colored paper by placing 3 spoonfuls in puddles down the center of the page. Spread the color around the paper with the back of a spoon, a fork, a pot scrubber or a brush to create different textures.
- Spoon another color over the top of the first color in the same manner (figure A). Spread the paints with different implements to blend the colors together and create different textures (figure B).
- Use another sheet of paper and repeat steps 2 and 3 with two other colors.
- Flip the second sheet of paper over, place it paint side down on the paint side of the first sheet, and press to integrate the colors. Peel the top sheet off, leaving a blend of interesting colors and textures (figure C). Let the sheet dry ( figure D).
