Question: Lately, I have developed a bad habit. I lift my left foot on my follow through. Disaster city! Any remedies? -- J.W., Internet.

Answer: I'm assuming you're a right-handed player. If you said you lifted your left heel on the back swing, I'd say don't worry about it. Lifting your left foot on the follow through is another story.

The problem is in your weight shift. At address, your weight should be evenly distributed. At the top of the back swing, about 80 percent of your weight should be on your right foot. From impact to your final, follow through pose, all of your weight should be on your left foot, making it impossible to take your left foot off the ground.

Chances are, you're making a reverse weight shift. This means that on the back swing, more weight is staying on your left foot than your right foot. You'll feel like you're leaning forward on your back swing. Then on the downswing, your weight will most probably rebound back onto your right foot, pulling your left foot off the ground.

A good drill to help you feel the proper shift is to make continuous golf swings, allowing your weight to flow smoothly back and forth. Make these swings until you pick up the rhythm. Then step up to the ball and duplicate that motion.
