There are dozens of ingenious games, toys and accessories that are great just for having fun in the pool. Following are just a few examples.

Floating golf uses a tee made of artificial turf and a floating "green" made of fabric (figure A). Chip lightweight plastic golfballs from poolside onto the green. If you make it to the green in one shot, the balls stick to the green surface, since they are equipped with a VelcroB. strip. If you don't make it to the green in one shot, chances are you'll be taking a water penalty. And a dip while you're at it.

Turn your pool into a basketball court of sorts with an inflatable basketball goal (figure B). This allows you to practice your shooting accuracy or, if you have a number of players, form teams and play a casual game of water basketball. The goal has several openings that the ball may drop through, each with different a score associated.

Ring-toss is just what it sounds like. Use a floating stake and floating rings (figure C) and test your skill in something akin to "water horseshoes."

The torpedo toss uses a heavy, hard-rubber torpedo that travels a surprising distance when "thrown" underwater. Two people can get quite a game of underwater catch going -- at least for as long as they can hold their breath. Or set up underwater targets and compete with one another for accuracy.

Boogey Boards were designed as a variation on the surfboard and are used by serious surf enthusiasts for what amounts to a cross between board- and body-surfing. There are Boogey Boarding competitions that, in big waves, become something of an extreme sport. Of course, they're also great just for having fun in a pool. Use them as an aid to practice swimming kick-techniques, or just to lounge in the water.

When you're tired of games, a floating cooler (figure D) will add to your enjoyment as you relax on an air mattress or simply bob around in the pool. These hold drink cups, cans, bottles and ice. Some even have a place for your cell phone.

And for some simple pool nonsense, try to hop onboard the Crazy Coil (figure E). This floating inflatable serpent is part raft and part bucking bronco. Try to lie on it, climb on it, straddle it or get more than one person aboard.
