  • Mexican Food Wreath
  • From "Paul James' Home Grown Cooking"
    episode HGC-154
    advertisement

Corn, chili peppers and garlic are must-have ingredients for authentic Mexican meals, and if you don't want to be hung out to dry without them, consider creating a unique South-of-the-Border floral food wreath.

    Ingredients:

    Basic wreath shell
    Corn husks
    Garlic
    Chili peppers
Herbs or grass or any foliage of your choice

    Steps:

    1. The top of the piece is the focal point, so shuck some corn and use the husks and intertwine them into the top of the wreath.
    2. Integrate some chili peppers throughout the wreath.
    3. One of the nice things to do with a floral food wreath is to have something draping down the center. For example, tie together some corn, garlic heads and stalks and a colorful floral choice.
    4. A great way to spice up the wreath is to add herbs, such as rosemary or whatever you desire. Just tuck the herbs in between the twigs of the wreath base.
    5. Add eucalyptus to the wreath to keep moths and pests away from the fresh food items.
    Notes:
    • If you are wondering how to keep your peppers perky and garlic glowing, try a blow-dryer, which works great for getting rid of accumulated dust and dirt.
    • Soak dried peppers in water to plump them up. Almost anything can be used in the food wreath. Be creative and have fun!
