Now that you've finished slashing and fraying the fabric, it's time to cut out the panels and complete the jacket.

    Cut out panels:

    1. Cut the panels according to the pattern pieces (figure A). Remember right and left -- match the stitching lines so the front panels form a V shape. Staystitch around all sides to secure the edges.

    2. Bind the outside edges with the 1-1/2" bias strips, mitering corners.

    3. Finish the binding with hand or machine stitches.

    Create the double binding:

    1. Prepare enough round piping from bias strips (1-1/4") from one of the accent pieces to go down the seam on each jacket front, plus 1" or 2".

    2. Prepare flat binding by cutting 2-1/4" bias strips from one of the accent pieces. Fold in the middle and press.

    3. Lay the round piping over the flat, matching raw edges (figure B), and baste to the edge of the seam on the jacket fronts (figure C).

    Attach panel:

    1. Match the panel to the seam from the shoulder down. Your jacket will extend 4" past the slashed panel at the bottom.

    2. Stitch with a zipper foot, close to the piping (figure D).
    3. Finish the seam, usinge a zigzag stitch, overlock or any other seam finish (figure E). Press the seam allowance toward the jacket.

    4. On the front side, lift the flat piping and topstitch to hold the seam allowance in place (figure F). Press the flat piping back into place, concealing the stitching.

    Jacket Construction:

Follow the pattern directions for the rest of the jacket construction. The back neck facing should fit right into the space left when you angled away the 5/8" seam allowance at the neck.
