Here's a close-up view of the scalloped edging.

The last thing you have to do is create the decorative (and deceptively simple) scalloped and double-stitched hem (figure A).

    Machine setup:

    1. Set machine for the blindhem stitch and choose mirror-image function. (If you don't have this function on your machine, sew with the bulk of the fabric to the right of the needle rather than the traditional placement to the left of the needle.)
    2. Lengthen stitch length to 4.0mm and widen stitch width to 5.0mm. (If your machine can't stitch that wide, adjust as wise as possible)
    3. Moderately increase the needle thread tension. You will also be using single needle, standard construction thread and standard presser foot. (Do not use the blindhem foot.)
    4. Sewing from the wrong side, stitch hems so that the straight stitches are on the hem allowance and the swing of the zigzag stitch goes completely off and over the fold of the hem. Be careful not to stretch the hem as you stitch.
    5. Insert a 4.0 double needle and thread the machine with standard construction thread.
    6. Sew from the right side of the garment with a 3.5mm length straight stitch and normal tension. With the right toe of the presser foot riding on top of the scallops and the right needle falling directly on the straight stitches of the blindhem stitch, double-needle topstitch the hem.
    7. From the wrong side, trim the excess hem close to the stitching.
