To determine how much ribbing your sewing machine can accommodate, measure the machine's free arm and cut the fabric accordingly.

    Figure B

Now it's time to add some mock ribbing (figure A) to the neck of your pullover.

    Machine setup:

    1. Insert 4.0 double needle in your machine and thread both needles with standard construction thread.
    2. Attach appliquC) presser foot and arrange your machine for free-arm sewing.
    3. Set machine for straight stitch, 3.0mm stitch length.
    4. With right side facing up, sew the first pintuck one presser-foot width away from the 12" edge neck trim, sewing pintuck with the. Just before you get to the opposite edge of the fleece, stop with the needle down in the fabric.
    5. Bring the beginning edge of the just-sewn pintuck from the back side of the machine, under the free arm, and butt it against the ending edge of the pintuck. Offset the butted edges so that the right edge of the presser foot will glide along the first pintuck when sewing the second pintuck (figure B).
    6. Continue sewing in a circle until you have made enough ribbing to cut the neck trim piece. Be careful to sew pintuck rows as straight as possible.
    7. When it becomes too crowded to pintuck more ribbing, cut open along butted edges and continue sewing.
    8. Cut pintucked fleece open between the stitched edges and lay ribbing on a flat surface.
    9. Smooth and arrange ribs as straight as possible. (For in-depth ribbing instructions, refer to Polar Magic book, resourced below.)
    10. Cut out neck trim per pattern directions, using directions for self-fabric. If your pattern does not include a self-fabric trim option, cut neck trim 2" longer than real ribbing dimension. (Note: If your ribs drifted to an angle, lay out the neck trim according to the ribs rather than the true straight-of-grain. Thankfully, fleece is very forgiving.)
    11. Using a 3.5mm stitch length, sew ribbing neck trim to garment, following your pattern's directions.
    12. Sew side seams and sleeves per your patterns directions.
    13. Turn up and pin bottom and sleeve hems.
