1-3/4 yards fabric skirt under layer
1-3/4 yards fabric for over layer
1 yard 1" elastic
Butterick pattern Overskirt:
1-3/4 yards linen for shirt
1"-wide bias strips of silk organza or 1"-wide strips of matching skirt fabric
1 yard lightweight fusible interfacing
Butterick pattern Sewing notions: Scissors, thread, hand sewing needles, pins, etc. Steps: Flat Fell Seam:
- For the under layer of the skirt, pin with wrong sides together and stitch the skirt seam at 5/8" or slightly wider (figure A). Trim one side down to 1/4" (figure B) and press the seam allowance to that side (figure C).
- Fold the longer seam allowance around the shorter one and pin flat (figure D).
- Edge-stitch along the fold.
French Seam:
- For the top layer of the skirt, stitch a 1/4" seam with the wrong sides of the fabric together. Trim seam to about 1/8".
- Press seam to one side.
- Fold skirt panels so the right sides are now together. Stitch the seam again at 3/8" to encase the original seam.
