    Figure C

A pair of lined linen pants is a classic wardrobe staple. Maybe you've been afraid to tackle something with such a reputation for difficulty, but Susan Khalje is going to simplify the whole process for you.

    Materials:
    2-3/4 yards 45" linen
    3 yards batiste
    Two packages hem lace
    7" zipper
    2 skirt hooks and bars
    1/4 yard lightweight fusible interfacing
    Vogue pants pattern
Sewing notions: scissors, thread, hand-sewing needles, pins, etc.

    Steps:

    1. Stitch pocket lining to pants at side seam, using a 7/8" seam allowance rather than the usual 5/8" (figure A). Reinforce seam at dot. Clip, trim and press.

    2. Baste pocket lining to pants front by hand (figure B).

    3. On front pocket, press under 1/2" along side and bottom. Pin pocket to pants front and edge-stitch. Stitch again, 1/4" to the inside of original stitch. Machine-baste across upper and lower edges of pocket (figure C). Remove basting.
