Susan Khalje makes a pair of ladies' shorts that feature a pocket sewin into the side seams. Materials:
2 yards linen
1 yard 1" elastic
McCall's pattern
Sewing notions: scissors, thread, hand-sewing needles, pins, etc. Steps: - Stitch pocket pieces to shorts front and shorts back (figure A). Press seam allowance toward pocket and edge-stitch on pocket, next to the seam.
- Pin the front and back pieces together, matching notches (figure B). Stitch the side seam and pocket bag together, remembering to stop stitching to leave an opening for the pocket.
- Serge the edges to finish. Remember to baste the pocket across the front of the waistband.
