Materials: 1-3/8 yards lightweight denim 7" jeans zipper 1-5/8" button or skirt hook and bar Lightweight cardboard for template Topstitching thread Butterick pattern Steps: Stitch the front skirt seam. Thread-mark the seam line along both sides of the zipper opening. Clip into the seam allowance at the base of the zipper opening (figure A). Stitch facing (figure B) to the left skirt front with a 1/4" seam allowance. Press seam allowance toward the facing. Fold facing in half so it extends just beyond the seamline and edge-stitch along the facing (figure C). Stitch the two pieces of the fly facing along the curved edge. Trim, turn and press . Pin the left side of the zipper tape to the fly and stitch along the zipper tape (figure D). On the right side of the skirt, fold the seam allowance so it extends 1/8" into the seam allowance. Pin the zippered fly to the right skirt front and edge-stitch along the fold (figure E). With the zipper closed, match the center front basted lines and mark the placement of the skirt left side of the zipper (figure F). Stitch the zipper to fly facing only. Using a cardboard template, trace the fly topstitching line onto the skirt left (figure G).
