    Materials:

    1 yard fleece fabric

    1 yard lining fabric

    1 10" separating zipper

    Purchased zipper pull

    Butterick vest pattern

    Steps:

Thread-mark the center front stitching lines.

Place one side of the separating zipper face down on the seam allowance. Remember , if you want the zipper teeth exposed, they should extend past the basting line. Using a zipper foot, stitch the zipper to the vest.

Now zip your zipper together. Lay the other half of the vest so that the center fronts are together. Use chalk to mark the center of the zipper, and also mark the corresponding placement on the vest front (figure A). Unzip the zipper and then, using this mark, pin and stitch the second half of the separating zipper (figure B). After sewing, once again zip the zipper to make sure it lies evenly from side to side.

After stitching in the vest lining, topstitch along the edge of the zipper to strengthen the zipper and secure the lining (figure C).

Add a decorative zipper pull (figure D).
