    Barry Klein's Twirled-Edge Scarf Wrap

Barry Klein shows how to create a twirled-edge scarf using self-striping yarn. He single crochets each row and creates a ruffled twirl on each end, and suddenly the scarf looks as though it has little flowers springing from it along both sides. Additionally, use of the self-striping yarn effortlessly generates complementary contrasting variations in colors.

6 50 gr. skeins wide self-stripe yarn, such as Tonalita, by Trendsetter

Crochet note: To single crochet (sc), insert the mouth of the hook into a stitch. Wrap the yarn around the mouth and pull a stitch through (1 stitch is on the hook.) Wrap the yarn around the mouth and pull through the stitch on the hook.

    1. Loosely ch 20.

    2. Turn and work as follows:
Row 1: Work 1 sc into each ch st across. Ch 5 extra sts. Turn.
Row 2: Work 2 sc in each of the first 5 ch sts. Work 1 sc into each of 20 sc sts from the body of the scarf. Ch 5 extra sts. Turn.

    3. Repeat Row 2 only, and twirls will alternate from one end to the other with 2 sc sts put into each of the 5 new sts added, causing them to "twirl" (figure A).

Note: Center 20sts of the scarf body will always be 1 sc st in each.

    4. Continue until the scarf reaches the desired length, or until enough yarn remains to fasten off at the end of a row. Fasten off and bury all tails horizontally within the row.
