Afya Ibomu shows how to crochet jam ponies, which are perfect for keeping long hair away from the face.
"Jam Pony" Ponytail WrapMaterials: 1.3 oz. skein Hilos la Espiga yarn (100% nylon), #18 (200g), in red (or comparable sport-weight acrylic yarn) fabric glue crochet hook, US size F/5 (3.75 mm). weaving needle Gauge: 15 dc = 4" Row 1: 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in ea ch to end. Rows 2-15: Ch 2 (count as 1st st now and throughout), turn, 1 dc in 2nd st from hook, 1 dc in ea st to end. (20 sts). Work a sc edging around panel, with 3 sc in each corner. Fasten off. Repeat to make 2 panels total.
Making the strips: Row 1: 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sl st in each to end. Fasten off. Repeat to make 2 strips total.

Adding fringe (figure A): You will be adding a single-strand fringe to each st along one side of both panels. Cut each yarn strand 20" long. Fold it in half, and then use the hook to pull the loop just through the st. Take the loose ends of the strand and pull them through the loop. Pull gently to tighten the knot. After you have added all the fringes, trim the ends even.

How to put on jam ponies: Wrap panel securely crosswise around ponytail, wrap folded strip tightly around entire ponytail, starting at the top and moving down, tie ends of strip together with knot.
