  • The Cowgirl Tank
  • Crochet a fitted, corset-style scoop neck tank of stretchy yarn, using all single crochet.
    From "Uncommon Threads"
    episode DUCT-153

Tiffany Roots crochets the top part of the combo and points out the tricky areas of the pattern. You'll need to decrease for the waist, increase at the top and crochet straps at the end to help make the top fit perfectly.

    The Cowgirl Tank
    Materials:

    490 (555, 605, 685, 740) yd. worsted-weight yarn with stretch (long torso add 25 [30, 30, 35, 35] yd.; full bust add 15 [20, 20, 25, 25] yd.)
crochet hook, 5.00mm (US size H)
    measuring tape

    Notes on materials:
The main yarn for both the tank and skirt needs to have some stretch. Some yarns, such as Patons Katrina, achieve this through the style of ply (in the case of Katrina, a wrapped bamboo). Other, such as Cascade Fixation or Adriafil Stretch, contain a small amount of elastic or Spandex. It's possible to make both the tank and the skirt in yarns with little stretch; the difference will be reflected mostly in the difficulty in getting the garments on and off, as these designs are meant to be fitted. You can work some ease into the pattern by moving up one size.

    Crochet terms and abbreviations:
    ch chain
    db-ch double-base chain
    sl st slip stitch
    sc single crochet
    sc-red single crochet reduce
3-sc-cl 3 single crochet cluster (**insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull loop through** x 3, yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook)

    Making a gauge swatch:
    Base: Db-ch 12, turn.
Row 1: Ch 1, 1 sc into each of the next 12 st, turn.
    Rows 2-12: Repeat Row 1.

Measuring in center of gauge swatch:
    7 sts = 2"
    8 rows = 2"

    Pattern notes:

    • This tank top is worked in the round until the armholes. For the purposes of this pattern, join at the end of each round and turn.

    • Carefully placed decreases and increases are used to create crocheted darts (figure A), which is the basis of the garment's fitted corset-style silhouette (figure B).

    • Do not assume you know your measurements without taking them first: good measurements are essential to a proper fit! Complete instructions are given for petite and long torsos and full busts so that you can achieve the perfect fit.
