Missa Hills demonstrates the half-double and double crochet, then takes these two stitches, along with the ones shown earlier, and makes a great money purse.

    Crochet in a spiral:
Ch 4, join with sl st to form ring, ch 1.
Work 7 sc in center of ring, do not turn, start working spiral (figure A).

Note: The following are not rounds, just spaced apart so the pattern can be followed easily.

2 sc in next 5 sts, 1 sc in next, 2 sc in next, 1 sc in next, 2 sc in next, 1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next.
*1 sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next; repeat from * once more, *1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next; repeat from * once more, 1 sc in next, 2 sc in next, 1 sc in next, 2 sc in next.

1 sc in next 9 sts, in next work 1 sc and 1 hdc.
1 sc in next 10 sts, in next work 1 sc and 1 hdc.
1 sc in next 12 sts, 2 sc in next.
1 sc in next 9 sts, in next work 1 hdc and 1 dc, 2 dc in next, 1 hdc in next.
1 sc in next 9 sts, in next work 1 sc and 1 hdc.
In next work 1 hdc and 1 dc, 1 dc in next, 1 hdc in next, 1 sc in next.
Slip st to next st, cut yarn.

    Back:
Work same as front, but because Silk Garden is a somewhat thick-thin yarn, you may have to space corners a bit differently to match the front (figure B), and you might need an extra round or one round less.

    Join pieces and insert zipper:
Place front and back with wrong sides together, sl st along the edge to join,
leaving about 1" unstitched at the edges of the opening (for room to sew zipper).
Fold top edges down a bit to pin zipper into place, sew zipper to inside of purse (figure C). Alternatively, you can use a button and a crochet chain for closure, or sew hook-and-loop dots to the inside.

    Handle:
Ch 40, work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch across.
Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each across, end.
Fold in half and sew to corner of purse.
