Beth Coye, of the Lacy Libertines, uses the chain stitch to create a scarf and connects the rows with double crochet.

Crochet Scarf

Materials:

Kollage Yarns Inspiration (150 yds/97g) in Seagrass
crochet hook, US size J

Yarn gauge: 4 stitches = 1" on US 8 or 2 stitches = 1" on US 15.

Abbreviations:
ch chain
dc double crochet
tr treble crochet (like a double crochet only with 3 loops instead of 2)
* to * repeat between asterisks

Ch 207 (figure A).

Row 1: Work 1dc into 12th ch from hook, *4ch, skip 4 ch, 1 dc into next ch; rep from * to end, turn.

Row 2: 6 ch (count as1 tr, 2 ch),1 dc into next 4 ch sp, * 4 ch, 1 dc into next 4 ch sp, rep from * to end, 2 ch, 1 tr into 5 th ch turn.

Row 3: 7 c h (count as 1 dc, 4 ch), * 1 dc into next 4 ch sp , 4 ch; rep from * t o last sp, 1 dc into 4 th of 6 ch at beg of previous row, turn

Repeat Row 2 and 3 until you run out of yarn.

Add tassels, if you wish (figure B).
