    Figure D
    1. Tightly roll a piece of yellow wool into a cylinder shape and needle to the center of the sun's face to form the length of the nose (figure D). Roll two little yellow balls and place on either side of the bottom of the cylinder shape to form the sides of the nose; needle firmly in place. Place a thin layer of yellow wool over the whole nose; needle all around and over the shape of the nose to make a skin, blending the edges into the face.

    2. Add tufts of yellow wool to build up the forehead area and needle firmly into place, blending the edges into the face.

    3. Add tufts of yellow wool to build up the cheeks and needle firmly into place, blending the edges into the face.

    4. Add tufts of yellow wool to build up the chin, needling firmly into place, blending edges into the face.

    5. Roll a piece of orange wool into a cylinder shape, the width you would like the sun's mouth. Needle this bottom lip into place, guiding its shape with the needle. Repeat for the top lip and needle both firmly into place.

    6. Keeping the pokes close together in a line, use the needle to outline eye sockets where you would like the edges of the sockets to be on the face. Fill in the outline with white wool. Make a colored ball for the iris and needle it onto the white wool. Add a smaller black ball in the middle of the iris for the pupil. Roll four small amounts of yellow wool into thin cylinder shapes to form eyelids. Place the bottom lids on first, needle in place and repeat with the top lids. Add a tiny spot of white to each pupil to make the eyes look more realistic. Needle all firmly into place.

    7. If you would like, add orange or black wool for eyebrows, black wool for nostrils and a very thin layer of orange to the cheeks as highlights.

    8. Check over the whole sun now, making sure all the wool is firmly felted into place.

    9. When you're finished with the sun, peel the jacket off the foam, remove the hoop and turn the jacket inside out. Using a spray bottle filled with hot soapy water, lightly spray the back of the sun, where the wool poked through the denim, until damp. Gently glide your hands over this area, rubbing the poked-through wool for five minutes. Blot with a towel. Alternate spraying the area with clean water and blotting with a towel until all the soap is rinsed. Line dry.

Washing instructions: Wash by hand in cool water with a product intended for wool. Do not scrub the felted area. Line dry.
