    Figure C
    Square (figure A)

    Gauge: 16 st and 20 rows = 4"x4" approximately

To start: Loosely chain 16 st., turn, ch 1.
Row 1: *sc into each sc, ch 1, turn*.
Repeat between ** for approximately 20 rows until complete.

To check if the square is square, fold the crocheted square diagonally in half. If all edges and corners meet up, you have yourself a square! Blocking may be needed before assembling or sewing into a larger project.

    Spiral (figure B)

To start: Loosely chain 6, join with sl st to form ring.
Row 1: work 12 sc into ring.
Row 2: work 2sc into each sc until end.
Row 3: work 1 sc into each sc until end.

All even rows: as row 2.
All odd rows as row 3.

Work until spiral measures 4" in diameter.

The spiral may be wavy (figure C), so be sure to block it before assembling it in projects.
