    Detail of crochet technique
3 skeins Lion Brand Incredible Ribbon Yarn in City Lights
    crochet hook, size P

    Abbreviations:
    ch (chain)
    dc (double crochet)
    sc (single crochet)
    sl st (slip stitch)
    yo (yarn over)

Note: This valance is worked in one piece.

    Solid rows:
Rows 1-4: Ch 38, dc in third ch from hook and in each chain across (a total of 36 dc), ch 3, turn. Work a total of 4 dc rows. Ch 5, turn.

    Lattice pattern:
Counting the dc under the ch 5, * sc in third dc, ch 5 * repeat from * across, work last sc in top of ch 3, ch 5, turn. Work 5 rows total. Ch 3, turn.

    Return to solid rows:
Counting the ch 3 as your first dc, * dc in second ch, fourth ch, and sc * repeat from * across (for a total of 36 dc), ch 3, turn. Work 3 more dc rows.

Repeat lattice pattern and solid rows until you've reached desired width, ending with 4 dc rows.

    Forming the tabs:
Ch 1, work 9 sc across the side of the dc rows (foundation row), ch 3, turn. Work 7 dc rows, ch 1.

Fold the tab in half. Form the loop of the tab by attaching row 7 to the sc foundation row with a sl st (to do so, insert hook in the first sc and through the top of the dc, yo, pull through to finish the sl st), ch 1.

Work 8 sc evenly across side of the lattice pattern.

Repeat from sc foundation row across.

Note: When you're finished, you should have a completed tab on the side of each solid row and a sc foundation row across the side of each lattice row.

    Ch 1, end off.

Note: Be sure to tie multiple knots to secure the piece: ribbon yarn will unravel easily. Hide ends.
