Needlepoint produces many beautiful creations, but learning advanced techniques takes time and patience.
|
Needlepoint is one of the most popular hobbies in the United States. Beginners can learn from a book, but a class is probably easier and more helpful. The American Needlepoint Guild has chapters across the country that offer workshops. In addition, the guild publishes a magazine, Needle Pointers, that includes charts and instruction for novice needlepointers. Beginners needs a canvas, fiber (thread), a needle, and stretcher bars to hold the canvas tight. Getting started in the hobby can be relatively inexpensive -- but advanced hobbyists can spend quite a sum of money, with painted canvases costing as much as $3,000! Because of this expense, many needlepointers simply extend their creativity and take on another hobby -- canvas painting -- to defray the cost.
