To start the ruffle, Jordana Paige picks up stitches all around the entire apron, including the waistband, working in a contrasting color. The ruffling is created by the first row, in which she rapidly increases to double the stitches on the needle, and then she continues to knit the rest of the rows in moss stitch. The leaves on the strawberries are created by simple garter stitch, increasing and then decreasing, then are given stems that are double knit.

The two strawberry pockets are knit in stockinette, with one purl row in reverse stockinette to create a hemline. The seeds are created with simple duplicate stitches, a great alternate to Fair Isle.

Using D, embroider seeds on each completed strawberry. Seeds on the berries shown in this episode were worked in duplicate stitch, approximately every 4 rows and every 4 stitches, in a staggered pattern.

To finish, weave in all loose ends and attach the waistband and pockets (see below).

Mark the center of the apron at the waistband. Mark the center of the ribbon. Align the center of the ribbon with the center of the waistband. Pin the ribbon to the waistband. Use a needle and thread to hand-stitch the ribbon to the waistband. Tuck under the raw edges of the ribbon and hand-sew in place.
|
Sew three leaves on top of each strawberry; the leaves with the stems should be in the center. Mark the desired location of the pockets on the skirt of the apron and sew them in place. When sewing on the pockets, sew in between the rows of the stitches so the yarn will not be seen. Also, remember: since this is a pocket, don't sew the top shut.
