    Cool Clutch Purse

Lisa Shobhana Mason shares a third project, a clutch purse that is created by double-stranding wool yarn and then knitting seed stitch for the majority of the purse. She knits a stockinette stitch panel with buttonholes, continues with a seed stitch border and then seams up the purse.

    Cool Clutch Purse
    Materials:

2 skeins Peace Fleece Worsted in Baghdad Blue
1 pair of needles, US size 11 (8mm)
    Notions: 2 buttons, 3⁄4"-1" (2cm-2.5cm)

Note: If necessary, change needle size to obtain correct gauge.

    Measurements: 12" (30cm) wide x 6" (15cm) tall with flap closed

Gauge: Working with two strands of yarn held together, 11 sts and 20 rows = 4" (10cm) in stitch pattern

    Clutch Handbag

Knitted as one large rectangular piece of fabric, this purse requires only minimal assembly. Once knitted, the bottom of the rectangle is folded up and seamed to the purse opening. The remainder of the rectangle folds over the top to become a flap. Worked with two strands of yarn held together, this textured clutch is as functional as it is pretty.

    Clutch:
With 2 strands of yarn, co 33.
Row 1: *K1, p1; repeat from *to last st, k1. Repeat Row 1 until piece measures 13" (33cm), ending with a WS row.

    Flap, next row:
    K1, p1, k29, p1, k1. ROW 2: k1, p1, k1, p27, k1, p1, k1.
Repeat these 2 rows 5 more times.

    Buttonhole rows, next row:
    K1, p1, k3, yo, k2tog, k19, k2tog, yo, k3, p1, k1.
    Row 2: *Kk1, p1; rep to last st, k1.
Repeat Row 2 five more times. Bind off all sts in pattern.

    Finishing

Fold up bottom of bag to approx 6" (15cm). Sew side seams; sew on buttons to align with buttonholes. Do not block.
