    To complement the sushi toilet-tissue cozy, MK Carroll creates a bamboo toilet tank mat. First she casts on and works a couple of rows of garter; then she demonstrates the pattern that creates vertical rows while working horizontally and also demonstrates a Swiss weave.

    knitting needles, U.S. size 8/5mm, 24" circular
    Blue Sky Alpacas Organic Cotton (worsted-weight undyed 100% organic cotton,
    100g, 150yds): 1 skein Sage (#83, green) [MC]
    Blue Sky Alpacas Organic Cotton (worsted-weight undyed 100% organic cotton,
    100g, 150yds): 1 skein Nut (#82, brown) [CC1]
    Blue Sky Alpacas Cotton (worsted-weight 100% cotton, 100g, 150yds): 1 skein
    Fern (#620, dark green) [CC2]
    tapestry needle

    Skills and techniques:
    slipping stitches
    I-cord edging

    Gauge: 20sts/28rows = 4"/10cms

    Abbreviations used:
    BO bind off
    [CC] contrast color
    CO cast-on
    k knit
    kfb knit into front and back of stitch (increase by one)
    [MC] main color
    sl slip
    st stitch
    wyib with yarn in back
    wyif with yarn in front

    Stitch pattern:

    Row 1: With [CC1], k1, *sl1wyib, p3*, end sl1, k1.
    Row 2: With [CC1], k1, *sl1wyif, k3*, end sl1, k1.
    Row 3: With [MC], p3, *sl1wyib, p3*.
    Row 4: With [MC], k3, *sl1wyif, k3*.
    Repeat rows 1-4.

    Pattern:
    Cut two 36" strands of [CC2], set aside.

    Mat:
    Using [CC2], CO 107 stitches (I recommend using cable CO; you can use your
    favorite).
    Rows 1-3: K all rows (garter stitch).
    Change to [MC].
    Rows 4, 5: K all (garter stitch).
    Rows 6-13: With [CC1] and [CC2], work in Blended Stripe pattern for 2 repeats, then weave in stripe:
    1. Using one of the 36" strands of [CC2], k1, *slip 2 wyif, slip 2 wyib* to end. After the
    first stitch, no stitches are knitted; yarn is woven through.
    2. Wrap the strand of [CC2] around the side of the piece, *slip 2 wyib, slip 2 wyif*.

    Middle section:
    Return to Blended Stripe until piece measures 6".
    Weave in second stripe.
    Return to Blended Stripe and work 2 repeats of the stitch pattern, starting with row 3 of the pattern (so that you end this section with [CC1].
    With [MC] knit 2 rows.
    With [CC2] knit 2 rows.
    BO all stitches with [CC2] (I use the standard BO; use whatever you prefer).

    Finishing:
    Weave in all ends.
