  • Disco Bangle Fever
  • Knit a glitzy purse and attach big gold bangles for handles.
    From "Knitty Gritty"
    episode DKNG-407

Brett Bara knits up a fun purse with big gold handles. She uses a yarn that comes double-stranded and adds another for even more fun. This purse is knit on size-3 needles for a tight weave, which is great for purses.

    Figure C
    Purse designed by Brett Bara

    Finished measurements: 6.5"x8.5" (excluding handles)

    Materials:

Lion Brand Glitterspun: 2 skeins #144 (Amethyst)
Lion Brand Fancy Fur: 2 skeins Stained Glass
    knitting needles, U.S. size 3
    2 bangle handles (see sources)
notions: blunt large-eyed needle; worsted-weight waste yarn in black

Gauge: 4 stitches per inch in garter stitch

To make body of purse, CO 24 sts. K every row until piece measures 7" (figure A). To shape top of bag, dec one stitch at beginning and end of every row by K2tog, until 12 stitches remain. Knit these 12 sts even for 2"; bind off loosely.

    Make 2.

    Finishing:
To attach handles, fold "neck" of purse body over handle and stitch in place using black waste yarn (figure B). Repeat for second purse body. To sew purse, stack both pieces, aligning bottom, sides and handles. Stitch bottom and sides using black waste yarn (figure C).

Knit Bit: Have trouble casting on to circular needles? Cast on to the same size straight needles and knit the first row onto the circulars, then join the work in the round. That one extra row makes it just a bit easier to prevent twisting.
