    Knit for the Cure™

Knitters and crocheters are encouraged to donate handmade scarves, hats and purses that incorporate the color pink; either mail them or drop them off to any one of the participating yarn stores listed at www. knitforthecure.com. The donated items are sold at the Race for the Cure and other Komen Foundation events with 100 percent of the proceeds going to support breast cancer research and treatment. In addition, the hats and scarves are also donated to breast cancer patients at area hospitals and treatment centers.

    Did you know?

    • The most important risk factor for breast cancer is being a woman.

    • Although it's rare, men can get breast cancer too.

    • In the USA, breast cancer is the most common skin cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women.

    • The causes of breast cancer are not fully known. This is why it's important to raise funds to support breast research and education so the medical community can identify risk factors and organizations such as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation can educate the public.
