  • Multiyarn Shoulder Wrap
  • This project combines five complementary textures to create a no-fuss wrap.
    From "Knitty Gritty"
    episode DKNG-312

This wrap, another of Barry Klein's designs, is knit from five different yarns (but you can use any number you wish)--and there's no final weaving necessary, as any ends can be tied off to make a decorative fringe. It's knit in a ribbed stitch to help it stay in place on the body.

    Multiyarn Shoulder Wrap
    Materials:

1 skein each Dune, Aura, Siam, Joy, Dolcino yarn (Trendsetter)
    needles (U.S. size 10)

    Upper Bust Measurement

It's a good idea to have someone else do this for you, as reaching around can throw off the measurement.

Wrap a tape measure around your full body above the bust and across the shoulders (figure A). Pull tight. Subtract an inch or two for proper fit.

With #10 needle and A, cast on 45 (55) sts. Work as follows:

Row 1: (RS) *P5,K5*. Rep *to*, end P5.
    Row 2: *K5,P5*. Rep *to*, end K5.

At the same time, change yarns every row as follows:

Leave a tail of 3". Join to first stitch and work in pattern across the row. Cut 3" tail.

Repeat for each yarn changing every row. Work in pattern until piece is ½" narrower than upper bust measurement as written above. Bind off. Sew piece together and enjoy.

    Horizontal Version

With #10 needle and A, Cast on 135sts. Work in the following rib st.:

Row 1: (RS) *P5,K5*. Rep *to*, end P5.
    Row 2: *K5,P5*. Rep *to*, end K5.

At the same time, change yarns every row as follows:

Leave a tail of 3". Join to first stitch and work in pattern across the row. Cut 3" tail.

Repeat for each yarn changing every row. Work in pattern until piece is 10" from cast on. Bind off in pattern. Sew piece together, keeping tails all to outside.
