    The back of the halter is finished. Now the front is worked in exactly the same manner to the last eight rows; then the halter shaping is created.

    Front

    Work same as back to *.
    Next row (RS): knit to last 2 st and place them on the first st holder, turn.
    Next row (WS): purl to last 2 sts and place them on the second st holder, turn.
    Next row (RS): knit to last 4 sts and add them to the first st.holder, turn.
    Next row (WS): purl to last 4 sts and add them to the second st.holder, turn.
    Next row (RS): knit to last 5 sts and add them to the first st.holder, turn.
    Next row (WS): purl to last 5 sts and add them to the second st.holder, turn.
    Next row (RS): knit to last 6 sts and add them to the first st.holder, turn.
    Next row (WS): purl to last 6 sts and add them to the second st.holder, turn.
    3 (7, 11, 15) sts rem on needle.

    Break the yarn and slip all stitches including both stitch holders, onto the same needle = 37 (41, 45, 49) sts.
    With RS facing, rejoin yarn at beg of row and work rows 1 to 3 of Rib pattern.
    Cast off in Rib.

    Straps (make 2)
    With one strand of each yarn held together, cast on 2 sts. Work in St st until 37 (37, 38, 40.5) cm/14-1/2 (14-1/2, 15, 16)". Cast off.

    Finishing

    Sew side seams. On upper edge of back, measure and make a point 5cm/2" to the right and 5cm/2" to the left of center back. Sew straps to these points. On upper edge of front, measure and mark a point 9cm/3-1/2" to the right and 9cm/3-1/2" to the left of center front. Sew other end of straps to these points, crisscrossing them and adjusting length for appropriate fit.
