With the shoe finished, the body of the boot begins to take shape.
Front Fill and Finishing:
1. Orient the shoe so you are looking at the front toe area. Put five of the front centermost stitches on a dpn (that's the center front stitch and the two stitches on either side of the center front stitch) (five stitches on that dpn). Knit those five stitches (figure A). 2. Turn work (so you are looking at back heel area), add one open stitch (being held by the other dpns) to each side of the dpn holding those five centermost stitches (seven stitches on the centermost front dpn). Purl those seven stitches. 3. Turn work, add one open stitch to each side of the same centermost dpn (nine stitches on the centermost front dpn). Knit those nine stitches.
4. Turn work, add one open stitch to each side of the centermost dpn as before (11 stitches on the needle--you will need to use/add another dpn to break up the row into two needles). Purl those 11 stitches. 5. Turn work, add two more stitches as before. Knit 13 stitches. 6. From where you left off knitting, begin Knit/Purl Rib for seven rows. Begin with a Purl stitch (figure B). Note: If you begin with a Purl stitch for this rib, when you come to the center front toe stitch it will be a Knit stitch and look cosmetically better (figure C). 7. Bind off loosely; tie in ends. There will be a hole made from the ribbing on the cuff. Close up this hole. Perform the Front Fill and Finishing to other shoe.
