    Materials:

Artyarns' Supermerino, in color #113 Brown
Artyarns' Supermerino, in color #121 Blue
    knitting needles, U.S. size 6
1" D-rings in antique gold (or desired finish)

Casting On to D-Rings (created by passing short tail of A through the front of the 2 D-rings before each stitch is cast on using long-tail cast-on method)

    PHOTO

    Figure A
Cast on with A only. Leave a minimum of 16" on one end of A, and thread A through both rings held together. Cast on one stitch onto the D-rings, then snug the yarn against the needle and the straight part of the D-rings. Before casting on the next stitch, pull the short tail through to the front of the rings, inserting it into the rings. Repeat process until there are a total of 12 stitches on the needle attached to the rings (figure A).

Belt Body (created by using double-knitting to make a double-sided fabric)

Note: Whenever AB is specified in the instructions, knit or purl with both strands A and B (e.g., K1 AB = knit one with both A and B together). Whenever A or B is specified separately, knit or purl with the individual strands (e.g., k1 A = knit one with A only).

Very important: When knitting or purling with the individual strands, make sure to carry both strands to the front when purling and to the back when knitting.

    PHOTO

    Figure B
    Attach B (figure B).
    S = Slip a stitch knitwise
    Row 1: K1 AB, (k1 A, p1 B) 2 times, (k1 B, p1 A) 1 time, (k1 A, p1 B) 2 times, p1 AB
    Row 2: S1, (k1 B, p1 A) 2 times, (k1 A, p1 B) 1 time, (k1 B, p1 A) 2 times, p1 AB.
Repeat rows 1-2 until belt is approximately 42" long.

Bind Off Belt (created by using three3-needle bind-off method and yarn A only)

Divide up the stitches onto 2 needles as follows:
First stitch and all subsequent purl stitches on first needle
All knit stitches and last stitch on second needle
Take a third needle and with A alone, k 1 stitch from 1st needle together with 1 stitch from second needle. *K 1 stitch from first needle together with 1 stitch from second needle. Bind off once. Repeat from * to end of row. Cut yarn. Weave in ends.

Tip: When you're double-knitting, it's important to pay twice as close attention: it's twice as hard to undo and get the needles in the proper placement because you're working with two layers of knitting at the same time.

Tip: When you're working with two yarns, try to turn your work back and forth instead of in the same direction; this will help prevent a lot of twisting of the two fibers. Don't let the twisting get out of control.
