Knit-O-Meter Rating: Intermediate.Size
To fit hips 36"/38" and 40"/42" Directions are for the smaller size, with larger sizes in parentheses. If there is only one figure, it applies to all sizes.
Materials
9 balls of Muench GGH Intension in Mottled Grey
1 pair each of 24, 32, and 40 inch U.S size-7 circular needles
2 yards black satin ribbon
Note: Remember that many yarns are seasonal and could be discontinued. If the specific yarn called for is not available, purchase a substitution yarn that comes closest to the specified gauge in your pattern. And be sure to make that all-important swatch to see whether the yarn works for your particular pattern.
Gauge: 19 sts and 26 rows/rounds each to 4"
Stockinette stitch (st-st): K RS rows; P WS rows; in rounds K all sts.
Work skirt in once piece in rounds. Start with the long circular needle and change to smaller ones as required.
Cast on 282 (300) sts in the figure-eight, or cable, style.
Tip: When you're casting on a large number of stitches, place a marker every 50 stitches or so. That way, you won't have to keep going back and recounting your stitches.
Figure-Eight (Cable) Cast-On
This project is easier if you use this alternative cast-on method.
Wrap the yarn around the two needles in a figure-eight motion, going over the top needle from the back, between the two needles and down around the bottom needle from the back to the front, and back through the two needles again so you have two stitches. Be very careful that the stitches you cast on aren't too tight. Now pick up the working yarn and knit across the top row. Then, flip your needles so the row you just knit is on the bottom, and knit across that needle.
Then, work in st st. To decrease for flounce, work on 6th row 22 (25) sts. in pattern, over following 25 sts. mark 1st and last sts. and continue as follows: 1 slip decrease (= on 1st decrease round = 21 sts) in pattern, K last marked st. together with preceding st., 22 (25) sts. in pattern, work 6 times from * = 12 decreases on each round. Work decrease in the same positions on every 6th round. Work decrease in the same positions on every 6th round 10 times, reducing the 25 sts. in pattern = 150 (168) sts.
When work measures 42 cm (16-1/2") mark 8 stitches on either side for hip shaping. K 1st marked stitch together with preceding stitch, 6 in pattern, 1 slip decrease = 146 (164) stitches. Repeat these decreases after 10 rounds, then after 8 rounds and again after 6 roundsonce each = 134 (152) stitches.
When work measures 54 cm (21 1/4 inches) K2 together evenly across 8 times = 126 (144) sts, then for cord casing you can do the following optional eyelet row: *5 in pattern, yarn-over, 1 slip decrease, K2 together, yarn-over, repeat 14 (16) times from *. Continue in stockinette stitch for 3 cm over all stitches, then bind off all stitches.
Feed ribbon through eyelet round or, if you skipped the eyelet round, it should fit without it. Make into a bow at center front.
