When you're deciding on an edging for a piece of knitting, try to find one that relates in some way to the body of the project. For instance, this sweater has a wavy stitch pattern, so the ideal edging is one that mimics the waves (figure A). The edging may look a little intimidating, but it's created by simply stacking increases over increases and decreases over decreases.

Here's one that's simple and stylish, courtesy of Elizabeth Marmugl of Needful Yarns: Use a synthetic suede-like ribbon to jazz up a simple knit poncho. Run lengths of ribbon through evenly spaced stitches and tie each piece in half by looping it back through itself to create a simple fringe of tassels. Then run a longer piece of the ribbon through stitches around the neck of the poncho and use it as a drawstring for a decorative and functional touch. Next: Introduction to Intarsia
