Ground-covers are ideal for areas that have a lot of shade that prevents grass from growing. They're also great for steep areas that are hard to mow.

After a while, landscaping or garden ground-cover can start to look a little shaggy. Here are some suggestions for cleaning it up.

    • Clean up ground-cover using an edger or weed-trimmer (figure A).

    • Cut the growth down to the ground. The plantings should grow back within a couple of weeks, and will grow back healthier and tidier.

    • You can also mow over ground-cover with a lawnmower if the location is accessible. Just be sure to raise your mower's blade to its highest setting.
