    Lawn expert Jamie McMurray shares basic steps in reseeding a lawn:

    1. Mark the location of existing sprinkler heads.
    2. Rake up dead grass from the lawn.
    3. Use a rototiller to aerate the lawn (figure A).
    4. Apply top-quality seed to thin spots in the lawn (by hand in small areas or with a drop spreader in large areas.)
    5. Apply seed cover (a thin layer of mulch).
    6. Press seed into soil using a lawn roller.
    7. Keep seed moist at all times by watering frequently.
