Leo Snider's Pasadena garden is truly Lilliputian, built on a scale in which 12" of space equals 6'. Shrubs are pruned to resemble mighty oak trees, and miniature roses are grown in place of their full-size relatives. In Leo's garden, plants and structures are selected to fit the scale, and leaf size is critical. Small pines, flowering lobelia, Armeria juniperifolia, brachyscome, Sedum brevifolium and miniature roses are some of the featured plants. Tiny pebbles were used to create stepping stones, and full-size brick was cut to proper scale for use in pathways. To give the garden a sense of occupancy, Leo purchased several small ceramic figurines and placed them throughout the garden.
