This wall looks as though it has leaves and shells embedded in it, but the finish is actually very easy to create.

Nancy Golden, host of DIY's Decorating and Design, decorates a wall with leaves and shells for an aged, rustic look.

    Materials:

    Drywall compound
    Trowel
    Gloves
    Paint roller
    Roller pan with water
    Large silk leaves, seashells, etc.

    1. Wearing gloves, use a trowel to apply drywall compound generously to an area of the wall.

    2. Smooth the surface slightly with a damp paint roller.

    3. Dampen a silk leaf and press it into the drywall with your fingers. Then go over it with the roller and carefully lift it from the surface.

    4. Continue pressing leaves (and any other objects such as seashells) into the drywall and removing them, leaving an impression of each.

    5. When the wall is dry, add a dark base coat, and then dry-brush a lighter shade to bring out the design.
