    Keep electrical appliances such as hair dryers away from sinks and other plumbing. A good rule of thumb is that if the cord is long enough to reach water, you should remove the appliance or shorten the cord.

    If there's a light above your shower, make sure the bulb has a cover (figure A). Hot lightbulbs can shatter when exposed to steam.

    Your bathroom should also be equipped with a ground fault circuit interrupter outlet (figure B), which will immediately shut off the power in the event of a short circuit.

    Keep medicines and household chemicals in cabinets. Use child-proof locks if you have small children. Avoid using caustic drain cleaners: baking soda and warm vinegar often work just as well.
