Animal TagsCathie Filian and Steve Piacenza create trendy tags for your furry friend's collar.
Materials:plastic shrink paper embossing heat gun or oven permanent markers bamboo skewer scissors decorative scissors hole punch protected surface parchment paper or brown paper bag heavy flat object large jump ring jewelry pliers 1. Choose a design for the tag. Remember: the design will shrink approximately 60 percent.
2. Cut a 2-1/2"x2-1/2" square out of the shrink paper with regular scissors. Using a regular hole punch, punch a hole 3/8" down from the top, in the center of the square (figure A). Draw designs using permanent markers (figure B). Trim edges with decorative scissors (figure C).
3. Line the protected surface with a brown paper bag. Place the shrink tag on the bag and posistion the pointed end of the bamboo skewer in the punched hole (to prevent the shrink tag from blowing away). Evenly heat the shrink tag with an embossing gun held approximately 2" from the tag (figure D). The tag will curl up and go crazy, but dont worry: it will flatten out. You can also heat the shrink paper in the oven; just follow the instructions on the shrink paper package.4. As soon as the tag is completely flat, remove the bamboo skewer. Working fast, place parchment paper or a brown paper bag over the tag and place a book or other heavy object on top (figure E). This will help the tag lie flat and straight. The tag should cool in approximately 30 seconds. 5. Using pliers, attach a large jump ring to the tag before attaching the tag to your pets collar (figure F).
