    episode DADD-107

Antiques have that special mellowness that new furniture simply hasn't had the time to acquire. But if you like working with new wood, especially unfinished furniture, DIY woodworking expert Bruce Johnson demonstrates how you can create an antique effect in just two simple steps.

    1. apply a coat of tung oil to the bare wood (look for tung oil in home-improvement stores). Rub it into the wood, let it soak in and then wipe off the excess. Let it dry.

    2. With a clean, soft cloth apply a coat of paste wax. Paste wax won’t give the wood the dramatic effect, but will instead impart that nice mellow glow that we associate with antiques. Rub it onto the dried tung oil, let it dry for five minutes, and then buff it to a beautiful antique sheen.
