To attach the baskets to the walls, it's important to use masonry anchors and a masonry bit. Hill and Tony Smart marked the walls and put in the anchors (figure B) before the wall was painted so that the paint covered any mistakes or marks.Each basket contains a moss insert that will hold moisture yet provide adequate drainage. From time to time, the basket will need to be removed and hosed thoroughly to keep any clumps from clogging it.
Hill provides each family member with potting soil and various annuals and let them make the baskets. He suggests mixing textures in the same color group and adding height near the back of the basket.
While the family is playing with plants, Taylor and Carla Smart are painting the walls (figure C).

Steps
1. Measure and mark placement
2. Using masonry bit, drill hole and insert anchor.
Note: We painted between installing the anchors and hanging the baskets.
3. Add potting soil and fertilizer.
4. Add annuals (and more soil as needed).
5. Place baskets and insert screws into the anchors.
6. Water flowers.
