Adding a Border to a Sisal RugMaterials:
fabric (Waverly 670402 Hexagon Cayenne)
sisal rug
scissors
fusible tape
fabric glue
measuring tape
iron
1. First measure the top and bottom border of the rug and add 2". Next measure the length and width and add 3" to the width of each piece.
2. Transfer the measurements to the fabric and cut out the pieces accordingly.
3. Place a strip of fusible tape on the edge of the fabric. With fusible tape in place, line up the fabric with the border of the rug. Fold over a 1/2" on one side and press with an iron for a few seconds to bond it all together.
4. Continue the process on the remaining three sides, making sure to match up the pattern.
5. Leaving the corners for last, start gluing a couple of inches in from the corners. Spread the glue right along the edge of each side and finish by gluing with a squiggly line down the center.
6. Using the border as your guide, adhere the strips along the top and bottom borders and press the fabric down as you go.
7. Cut off the excess fabric on the corners. Add some glue and wrap the corners like the end of a package and finish by adding a little more glue.
