Kelly and Mitch make one final fabric accent for the room. In this segment, they cover canvases with fabric and then screw each canvas together to create a fabric art collage. Finally, April, Kelly and Cat add some finishing touches to complete the room: large floor pillows to lounge on; velvet drapes and linen panels for the window; and slipcovers for Mitch's chairs.
Fabric Wall ArtMaterials: fabric (several various complimentary fabrics) canvas of desired size (choose several varying sizes) scissors staple gun/staples drill screws 1. Pick a fabric with an interesting or distinctive pattern. 2. Buy a canvas at your local craft store according to the size you want the wall art. 3. Cut fabric to fit the canvas, add 1/2" on each side to staple to the back of the canvas. 4. Stretch the fabric over the canvas and staple it on the back. Start stapling in the middle, working your way to the corners and alternating sides as you go. Miter the corners. 5. Trim the excess fabric. 6. Repeat on canvases of various sizes using various complimentary fabrics. 7. Attach the canvases together using screws on the backsides of the frames. 8. Hang on the wall using a nail or picture hanger.
Floor PillowsMaterials: fabric scissors sewing machine/needle and thread pins pillow insert 1. Cut two pieces of fabric to desired size of pillow, making sure to add extra for the seam allowance 2. Place the two pieces of cut fabric with wrong sides together and stitch around three of the four sides. On the fourth side sew around corners and leave an opening to insert the pillow form. 3. Turn the fabric right side out and insert the pillow form. 4. Pin the opening closed and hand-stitch shut.
Table Runner Materials: primary cloth of desired pattern/color and size backing fabric of the desired color and size pins sewing machine thread and scissors 1. Lay primary cloth out over the desired space. After allowing for one extra inch on each side of the primary cloth, trim cloth to desired dimension. 2. Determine desired width of the table runner's border and trim the backing cloth to size allowing enough excess to finish the sides with a standard hem. 3. After hemming the backing fabric's sides, lay the primary cloth on top of the backing cloth. Fold the primary cloth 1" under on all four sides and pin in place on the backing fabric. 4. Run the pieces under the sewing machine using thread of a complementary shade.
Double CurtainsMaterials: fabric thread fabric lining sewing machine scissors tape measure Note: This curtain is placed on a double rod-pocket rod. 1. First measure your window. Start with the one width of fabric, cut to size plus 6" for the pocket rod and 4" for the bottom hem and another 18"-24" to make the folds. You may have to add another width of fabric depending on the size of your window. 2. Cut the lining the same as the above. 3. Lay the face fabric down then place the lining on top. Press and fold in sides to desired width of window. Fold again to make 1-1/2" side hem, cut excess lining away and sew. 4. Fold in 2" for the bottom hem and sew. Fold the top header for the pocket rod to make a 3" double hem. Press and sew. 5. Repeat the process creating a second set of curtains of a different fabric. 6. Hang the curtains on the double rod.
