    Materials:

    fabric
    scissors
    ruler
    chalk
    lining
    sewing machine/needle and thread
    tassels (optional)

    1. First measure the table to determine the size of the table runner (length and width). Cut the fabric to the appropriate size. Fold the material in half lengthwise, then measure and mark 7" from each end (figure A).

    2. Place a ruler from the bottom of the folded edge to the outer edge at the 7" mark. Draw a line with chalk at this point and cut on the line (figure B). Now when you open the fabric, you will have a triangle shape on each end.

    3. It's time to add the decorative border around the runner. Cut a 3" strip of fabric and iron a 1/2" fold line along the whole strip (figure C). Place the fabric face up and put the band on the top stitch. Make folds at the corners and the center of the triangle (figure D).

    4. Cut the lining to the same size as the fabric, then place right sides together and pin.

    5. Sew all the way around, leaving a 1" seam allowance. Stop sewing about 5" before the seams meet (figure E). Clip the seams for a neater look. Pull the material right side out, press and hand-sew the opening closed.

    6. For an added decorative element, hand-sew a tassel onto each corner.
