In this segment, Laura and Kelly make a memo board to hang on the fridge. The board is constructed of foam core, batting, and fabric; then gimp is strung across the board and secured with pom-poms to hold photos without thumbtacks.
Materials:foam core utility knife ruler fabric staple gun/staples ribbon/gimp trim thread upholstery needle pompons magnets hot glue gun
1. Use a utility knife and a straightedge to cut the foam core to the desired size for the memo board.2. Measure the batting to cover the foam core. Staple the batting to the foam core starting from the center out. Fold and staple the edges for a smoother look. Continue this process around the foam core. For a thicker memo board, double the batting. 3. Measure and cut the fabric to fit the board. Make sure to leave enough space to staple the fabric securely to the back of the board. Pull the fabric tight and staple to the center back of the board. Repeat on each side, folding the corners for a neat finish (figure A). 4. You'll need to add trim to hold the pictures in place. Turn the memo board over to the back and measure and mark where you want the trim. Cut the trim to the desired length and staple it to the back (figure B). 5. To hold the pictures more securely, attach a pompon to the board wherever the trim crisscrosses (figure C). Push the upholstery needle from the back to the front and back again; secure with a knot. Repeat this at every crisscross section. For an extra-decorative touch, you can hot-glue pompons at each dimple.
6. Hot-glue magnets to the back of the memo board to hang it on the refrigerator, or simply hang it on the wall with a nail or picture hanger.
