    Cornice Board
    Room designed by Kelly Keener.

    Materials:

    wood
    electric screwdriver
    wood screws
    batting
    staple gun
    scissors
    measuring tape
    fabric
    l-brackets

    1. Measure the window over which you want to place the cornice board (measure both the width of the window and the distance from the wall). Either cut the wood or have a local hardwood store cut it to the appropriate size.

    2. Use the wood screws and electric screwdriver to attach the three pieces together (figure A). Attach the two sides to the front piece.

    3. Measure and cut the batting to the correct size, allowing enough batting to reach the center of the back of the board.

    4. Lay the board face down on the batting. Starting at the top, pull the batting over the back of the board and staple in the center. Continue stapling down to the bottom. Make a clean fold on the corners and staple down.

    5. Cut fabric to fit over the board (figure B). Make sure you add extra to cover the batting and leave enough for a smooth hemline on the back.

    6. Lay the board face down on the wrong side of the fabric. Staple the fabric to the back center of the board, pulling it tight as you go (figure C). Again fold the corners over for a clean fold (figure D).

    7. Now simply hang the board on the wall using L-brackets (figure E).
