    • A simple and elegant idea is to place different-sized pillar candles on a cake dish. Adorn the candles with a vine (figure A) and add flowers.

    • Use a variety of sizes of terra-cotta flowerpots to create an inexpensive candle grouping (figure B).

Tip: To keep taper candles in place and prevent their falling over, place a wax button in the bottom of each candleholder.

    • Why not use fruits as candleholders? Use a tealight candle as a guide to trace a circle on an orange or apple. Cut the area open, place the tealight candle inside and surround it with whole cloves (figure C).

    • Another idea is to cut the back off of an artichoke, wedge it open and insert a votive candle.

    • Finally, a simple technique is to put a little water in clear votive candleholders and add a few drops of food coloring; then place the candle in the holder.
