For many people, getting lost when you're driving is the most helpless and frustrating situation in the world. Corey Greenberg discusses the solutionGPS systems. What Is a GPS System? - GPS stands for Global Positioning System and they can often be found in cars on boats, and as hand-helds. You can buy them, install them or some cars have that as an option.
How GPS Systems Work? - There are 24 satellites in space used for worldwide GPS navigation, and you car is always in communication with the nearest three satellites. They each track your car, and based on the difference between each of them determine where you are. You tell your GPS system where you want to go, the satellites map out the most direct route for you. As you are driving, the GPS system directs you turn-by-turn by voice command or a map where you need to go to get to your destination. No more fumbling with maps.
GPS Features - You can find places to stop for food by plugging in Chinese restaurants in the area and the system will give you back the closest onessort of like an electronic yellow pages. Then you can even save your favorites and it will show up on a map if you are ever in the area again. There are even voice activated ones that recognize your voice, but it sometimes has a few problems understanding the inflections in different people's voices. It can tell you the nearest gas stations, post offices, train stations.
Portable System - There are portable or suction GPS systems. The Cobra GPS system is no bigger than an ipod. It has a built-in antenna and you just plug it into your car lighter socket. It gives you directions all across the U.S. And you can lock it up in the glove compartment or take it with you.
Note: GPS systems are pretty accurate, weather doesn't affect them and they work basically anywhere except "possibly" under major tunnels.
