    Furniture Layout

    • Take inventory of what you have. This will help you avoid over furnishing a room and spending too much money.

    • Be sure to indicate things like where doorways, windows, fireplaces and other structural/architectural features are located.

    • Measure all the doorway openings.

    • Count the number of windows, note the placement and dimensions of them.

    • With the layout of your home in mind, look through decorating magazines for rooms that appeal to you.

    • Keep a clip file, or large binder with plastic sleeves of your favorite rooms and furniture pieces.

    • Note the types of colors and textures that appeal to you.

    • Take samples with you.

    • You don't have to do it all at once and in fact, don't! Haste makes waste and will cost you,

    • Use cutouts to arrange and re-arrange the room—prior to doing anything!
